Workflow refers to a set of tasks, steps, or a set of interconnected processes that are executed in a systematic manner to achieve a specific goal or outcome. Workflow describes the sequence of decisions, decisions, and actions required to complete a task or project and involves people, departments, or automated systems.

  • Input. Items (personnel, materials, resources, information, etc.) used to complete a step in a process. They serve as the starting point of the process.
  • Transformation. Rules or procedures for how input is received and what happens to it after it is received. Transformation refers to the actions, decisions, or conditions that determine how the process will proceed.
  • Output. The product or deliverables that result from the transformation. Output can be considered as input for the next stage of a process.
